A Movie About Alzheimer's & Resolving Petty Differences

In Hallmark land, tough issues are often avoided to keep movies light-hearted, unoffensive, and stress-free.  If a Hallmark movie is going to tug on your heart strings or require a Kleenex box to view, it will typically appear on Movies & Mysteries, which is where One December Night premiered.

Steve Bedford and Mike Sullivan comprise the iconic musical duo Bedford & Sullivan.  The two disbanded years ago due to Mike's constant drunkenness.  After a decade, Bedford and Sullivan decide to team up one last time for a televised performance, but they have their own reasons for agreeing to the gig.

Mike is in danger of losing his family home, Big Red, so he needs the cash.  Steve, though he doesn't initially tell anyone, is diagnosed with Alzheimer's and wants to do one more concert while he's still able.

Mike and Steve bicker like brothers and are quite a handful for Quinn and Jason to handle, who are their respective children as well as their managers.  Sharing the burden of making a show happen despite the continual feuding between their dads, Quinn and Jason rediscover each other and find the spark is still alive.

In the process, Quinn is able to reconnect with her father.  Mike's struggle with alcoholism inflicted a lot of emotional damage on Quinn, and, as a result, caused their relationship to be strained and distant.

As an adult, Quinn realizes the grief of losing her mother overwhelmed her dad, and though turning to the bottle was inexcusable, she is more empathetic and comes to terms with his past behavior.  He's turned over a new leaf, which finally makes reconciliation possible.

When Mike learns of Steve's diagnosis, it becomes easy to lay aside their petty differences.  There is a lesson for us all to learn in this.  Too often, we get caught up in the emotional drama of day-to-day living.  We are overly upset and concerned with things that don't ultimately matter in the big scheme of life.  Our time on Earth is short.  We need to remember that and focus on the important things.  What do you need to forgive and forget today?
