Christmas at Pemberley Manor

Released:  2018

Starring:  Jessica Lowndes and Michael Rady

SummaryWhen an event planner is sent to organize a small town's holiday festival, she meets an aloof billionaire with the perfect estate to host her event.

Have You Had an Awful Boss?

Elizabeth Bennett is a behind-the-scenes event planner who gets a chance to let her talents shine as she plans Lamden's annual Christmas Festival.  Her boss, Caroline, makes it abundantly clear her job depends on the event's success.

Have you ever had a boss like Caroline who made you walk on egg shells?  Fear is a motivator, but not a positive one.  Maybe you've had a boss who took credit for all your hard work. Women bosses are the worst kind.  Once in a while, you find an amazing one, but in general, women execs are far more back-stabbing, insecure, and emotional in how they manage, unlike men who tend to be more logical and stick to the bottom line without the added drama.

Does This Happen in Real Life?

Billionaire William Darcy visits Pemberley Manor one last Christmas before he sells the estate to a company that plans to tear it down and build condos on the premises. It was his aunt and uncle's estate, and they willed it to him, but his board has decided it makes good businesses sense to unload the asset.  Despite the fond memories Pemberley holds for him, he agrees to let it go--at least until he meets Elizabeth.

Despite his aloof and private demeanor, Elizabeth uncovers his true warmth and charm, and he is equally intrigued by her.

How often does a girl meet a billionaire and fall for him because of who he is? Isn't the money and lifestyle typically the biggest attraction?  As always, Hallmark manages to make unlikely chance a believable reality.

What a Coincidence!

Like a typical five and dime romance, the story is laden with a series of coincidences that propel our would-be love birds together.

First, the venue for the Christmas festival is lost, leading Elizabeth to Pemberley.  Second, the man playing Santa  at the festival gets sick, enabling the "real" Santa to take over.  Third, the soloist has to cancel, and the only one left to sing is Elizabeth.  Fourth, the celebrity news anchor can't read the Christmas story, and Mr. Darcy agrees to fill the spot.

On top of it all, Jane, the mayor's assistant, and Travis, Mr. Darcy's assistant, fall for each other along the way.

Is this cheesy?  Heck no!  It's magical!

Kristopher's Quote

The caretaker, Kristopher, whom we learn is actually Santa, made this statement that threads it's way through the whole story:
The things you love are never too far away.
This makes about as much sense as the famous line from Love Story:  Loving someone means never having to say you're sorry.  Dumbest movie line ever.  You always hurt the one you love, so you better learn to sincerely apologize when you do.

Do you have family or friends who live out of state?  They are pretty far away, right?  I love the ocean, but it's over ten hours away.  We love a lot of things that are too far away, but Kristopher's quote is still sappy and sounds good in a Hallmark movie.  At Pemberley Manor, love never is far away, and I guess when you hold someone or something in your heart, maybe they seem much closer than they really are.
